In this lesson, ss practice the 'shop language' by listening and speaking activities.

Main Aims

  • Ss listen for specific information in the context of shop language

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency for speaking in conversations in the context of shop language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students ( Shop Language)

Ss are asked questions about shopping. Teachers makes them wonder about the structures used in the topic.

Listening Task 1 (5-6 minutes) • To show ss the necessary structures in the context of shop language

Ss are given Listening 1 Task 1 HO. They listen to the dialogue and order the sentences as PW. They listen again, check their answers. FB is given as w/c.

Listening Task 1 Script - Useful Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

HO1 (typescript of listening task 1) is given. Ss see the sentences in bold. They try to understand them. CCQs are asked. FB is given as w/c.

Listening Task 2 (5-6 minutes) • To show the idea behind the grammar structure

Listening Task 2 is given. Ss listen and fill the gaps with the given words. FB is given. Sentences are drilled. Teacher focuses on stress and intonation.

Gap Fill - Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss are give Gap Fill / Match. They are expected to use the structures in the listenings on paper. They check their answers and FB is given w/c. Students speak with their partners. They practice the dialog.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' first production and use of language

Some sentences are written on the w/b if students are having problems with any. Grammar is checked. CCQs are asked. Pronunciation is checked for fluency.

Speaking (Pictures) (7-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss are given 'Pictures for Speaking'. As pairs, they ask each other for the items on the lists. Before the activity, a demo is shown between a student the teacher. Unknown words are checked. Next, the teacher and another student(s) repeat the activity. FB is given about the speaking.
