In this lesson Ss will learn basic greetings and farewells. They will learn the verb "be" in the positive form. As vocabulary, they will learn the numbers and days of the week.

Main Aims

  • for the Ss to be able to greet, introduce themselves and say farewells.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of the verb be in the context of Greetings


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will stick 4 photos on the board. I will write on the board "I am Pınar". I will ask Ss abt the photos. Write sentences I am 36 years old, I am from Turkey, I live in Bostancı, I am a lawyer. Ask Ss the questions.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will read the dialogues and look at the pics. Lİsten to the dialogues 2-3 times. Check the answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Hi / Hello formal-informal. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. Ss read the dialoggues in pairs.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The Ss read the dialogues in pairs.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The Ss stand up and introduce themselves to at least 5 students.

Clarification • To learn verb to be

Pick a sentence and use MFP technique for "to be". Also show contractions.
