In this lesson, students will be able to use "have got/has got" in the correct sentences. They will practice it in the context of "Big happy families".

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of "have got/has got" in the context of "Big happy families"

  • To provide review of family-relation words in the context of "Big happy families"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will draw a circle on the board naming it "Family", students will come to the board and write what comes to their mind related to family. Then we will discuss the pic from the handout.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students in pairs will read two texts and complete the tasks based on them. They will group two families.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students will underline have got/has got in the text. I will highlight them on the board.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will elicit the meaning of "have got/has got" from the students. I will also write the negative and question form of them.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will complete tasks to fix the grammar rule.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will ask questions to each other using have got/has got.
