Description

In this lesson students will learn irregular verbs The lesson will start with a short video about old fashion in the past.then they will practice some excercises in pair controlled,semi controlled.Finally, each student will speak freely about an old photo that he brought in to class as previously requested last session.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

play vidoe ,write two questions on board : what did school look like? What games did children play in the twenties? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTYSo085AII

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

write the sentences elicited from the video on the board and cirle the past tense verbs .

Highlighting & Clarification (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

highlight the irregular verbs in the sentences that I got from eliciting and clarify the time line on board and with hand movement.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Matching game give each group of five flash cards and they have to match basic form of the verb with the past tense form. divide board to five sections then the leader in each team and his assistant will come to hang up on board students answers,students to recheck answers together. go-went, have-had,wear-wore,stand-stood,get-got,bring-brought,buy-bought,hide-hid, catch- caught.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Activity1: Give students a sheet with six sentences and they will write the past form that fits in each sentence. 1- Girls(wear)--------- skirts and blouses to school long ago. 2- Boys(hide) ---------- in trees, they loved hide and seek game. 3- They (go) ----------- to museums on school trips in the twenties. 4- They (have) --------- no smart boards or computers in the twenties. 5- They (bring)----------- marbles to play with in school during break time in the old days. 6- students (stand) ----------- politely to listen to their teachers's instructions.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Activity 2: Students to use their mobiles to look up on line 5 irregular verbs similar to the ones they learned today. Activity 3 Students to bring out the old photos they brought about their families and to write three sentences on each picture using any irregular past tense verbs
