Description

Ss revise and practise the Present Perfect Simple with Ever/Never in the context of Hidden Talents. They learn collocations with Make and Do and practise how to correct mistakes in their written work.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Pre-teach/Elicit the meaning of the lesson title, Hidden talent. Ask: What were you good/bad at when you were a child? What did you want to do when you grew up? Did you have any secret ambitions? Any hidden talents?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Vocabulary MAKE and DO 1A. Elicit the meaning of make a speech, using the photos. Then elicit a definition, e.g. talk in public. Ss match the phrases with photos. MONITOR. Ss should copy the list of phrases with Make and Do into their notebooks. Worksheet - Make and Do

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1B. Ss write down their answers and then work in small groups and take turns to compare them. Monitor closely to check the accuracy of Ss sentences.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Explain Grammar. 2A. Ss listen and read the conversation and compare their answers. 2B. Ss answer the questions about the conversation. Write the first Three lines of the conversation on the board. 2C.Ss listen to the pronunciation of Have in questions and try to find the difference. Elicit/Underline the stressed words. Ss can listen again.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

3A. Ss underline the correct alternative. 3B. Ss complete the sentences. 4A. Ss write the past participle in the table. 4B. Ss match the verbs with the rhyming past participles and then listen and check. In feedback Check/ Drill the past participles. 4C. Ss make six "Have you ever..." questions? 4D. Ss should add an extra info with YES answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

5A. Ss describe the pictures, then I will play the recording. 5B. Ss read the sentences and then I will play the recording again. 6A. Elicit hidden talents of students or things they love doing. 6B. Ss should tell the hidden talent of their partner.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

7A. Ss read the paragraph and find nine mistakes and correct them. Worksheet - Find someone who... 7B. Ss write a paragraph about hidden talent of someone they think is very talented.
