Description

In this lesson Ss will learn about new vocabulary related to business such as salary, six-figure salary, apprentice etc. through a reading text. Finally, they are going to practice new vocabulary in a speaking discussion.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T tells the Ss they are going to watch a video. Ss are going to answer the questions in the handouts: What are these people talking about? How do they feel? -Ss check their answers in pairs. W/C F/B

Stage 2 (Pre-teaching vocabulary /ECDW) (6-8 minutes) • To elicit/teach the target words related to the topic (business)

T teaches "contestant, compete for, apprentice, task, talent, treat, get fired" through ECDW technique.

Stage 3 (Skimming the text for gist) (5-7 minutes) • To have a general idea about the text.

- T tells the Ss to look at the pictures and the title and wants them to guess what the programme 'Apprentice' is about. T tells them to discuss their ideas in pairs and writes the them on the board. - T tells the Ss to read the text quickly to check their predictions on the board. T asks Ss which of their ideas are mentioned in feedback.

Stage 4 ( Scanning the text) (5-7 minutes) • To provide students a detailed reading task.

- T tells the Ss to answer T/F questions alone. - T tells them to check tehir answers in pairs. - T asks Ss to unfold the paper to check the answers.

Stage 5 (Sentence Completition Activity) (3-5 minutes) • To practice the relevant vocabulary.

- T gives the sentence completition handouts. - T wants Ss to complete the sentences alone and check the answers in pairs. - T projects the answers.

Stage 6 (Discussion) (8-12 minutes) • To provide discussion among students about the relevant topic.

- T divides the Ss into groups of 3-4. - T gives the questions in ex. 1c. and monitors and takes notes while they are talking. - T nominates Ss to share their ideas with WC and writes good and bad sentences on the board and explains why.
