Description

In this lesson, Students will practice receptice skill (Reading) in the context of "New Year's Festivals" The vocabulary will focus on words and phrases related to the topic of the text and will be introduced through activities and flash cards.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of receptive skill reading in the context of "New year's Festivals"

  • Introduce Vocabulary related to the context of "New year's Festivals"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will provide pictures of different words related to the lesson theme ( Fireworks, Party, Parade, Presents, candles) and ask the SS what they see in those pictures, and elicit answers. T will then ask SS when do they see these things the most? What time of the year? - New Year This will gradually present the lesson subject to SS.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will display 3 pictures of 3 New year's Festivals ( Diwali / The Chinese New year / New year's eve) along with little pieces of paper with the name of the festival written on it. T will then ask SS to match the picture of the festival with the correct name.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will present the reading text and ask SS to read (Gist Reading / Skimming in order to check if their answers to the previous activity are correct. SS will skim the text/ while listening to it to check the answers individually. After they finish, T will ask them to work in pairs to check their answers. T will then provide Feedback.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will ask SS to read again ( Detailed Reading) in order to tick the correct sentences or cross the false ones according to the text. T will play the Audio track for a second time to help SS understand. T will then ask SS to check their answers in pairs. After they finish T will give feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will write one question on the WB " What do you do at New Year?" T will then ask SS to work in pairs and discuss the question using phrases from the previou reading text. After they finish, T will ask SS about the answer of their partners.
