Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information in the context of giving directions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will present some visuals asking students to name them. Additionally, I will also use my own instruction-giving sentences as examples of "Imperatives". I will try to elicit these answers from the learners.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will give them tasks to match the commands and pictures in pairs.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

After finishing the tasks I will ask them some questions to elicit answers on "how to form Imperatives".

Clarification (6-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage of the lesson, I will use example sentences from the students to present and clarify "Imperatives".

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will see some pictures which demonstrates directions and try to find appropriate words for them.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students will listen to the audio and do the exercises based on it. After checking them we will have a brief discussion around the topic.

Free Practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will complete one more task in order to fully understand the grammar topic of the lesson. Following this, each student will think of three crazy rules and write them down. At the end they will read them out loud.
