Description

In this lesson, students will be engaged in receptive skill development by reading for the gist with a text about jobs. The lesson starts with a photo and discussion about them. This is followed by vocabulary matching activity. Finally, it ends with paragraph writing.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about job advertisement in the context of dream job

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a paragraph in the context of dream job

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show a picture to the students and ask questions about it. Where is this place? Would you like to work in a place like that?

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Pre-teaching new words with matching vocabulary activity. Answer key will be the feedback. -The students will work in groups. candidate recruit duty etc. -drill the words - give their part of speech - show the stress.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

-The students read the advertisement and answer the questions in ex 8. -The students work in pairs. -Peer check feedback. - The teacher monitors.

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-The teacher asks the question in ex. 9a. Do you think this person would be good for the job? Why or why not? - And tells the students to read the letter and find the answer in pairs. O/C F/B - Elicit 'formal' and 'informal' - The students work in groups to discuss whether the language in the letter is formal or informal and find expressions for evidence. - For F/B, the students run to the outside of the classroom to find the answers. When they find them, they will read them and run back to the classroom and tell the other students the answers. Then another student will run from each group until they find all of them.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Get the students to write a paragraph about their dream job. -They will work in pairs. -The teacher monitors and gives feedback about accuracy.
