Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Extreme Living in the context of weather

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a describing in the context of weather

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets students. T projects some maps of Russa, USA, and Brazil. T asks students about these countries to elicit the superlatives. T asks students to describe the weather of Cairo. T asks ss "where is the best weather in Egypt?". T asks follow up questions.

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T gives Ss HO1 and asks them to match each word with the right definition. T asks Ss to check in pairs. T gives O/C feedback, T asks CCQs, drills, and covers stress and form.

Gist task (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading tasks

T introduces task: "Now individually, match the titles with the paragraphs". T asks ICQs: Are you going to match the titles with the paragraphs? Yes How many titles are you going to match? three. Ss do the task. T asks them to check in pairs. OC feedback

Specific information task (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with specific information reading task

T hands HO to ss T gives ss time to read the questions T asks ss to scan the text to quickly to answer them T asks " Are you going to write the names of the cities?" yes "Are you going to read slowly?" no pair check feed back

Detailed task (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

T explains the task ss have to decide whether these sentences true or false and correct the wrong ones. ICQs "Are you gonig to put T correct ones?" "Are you going to correct the wrong ones?" "where are the answers?" T gives them enough time. Check in pairs. T hands them an answer key.

Post-Reading (7-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T gives ss some general questions about their favourite season. "what is the season?" "why do you like it?" "which makes this season the best among the other seasons?" "what activities do you like do during this season?" T gives them some time to prepare. T asks them to start talking. T monitor to collect mistakes. T gives feedback.
