Telling a ghost story

Description

This lesson is in Module 10. It is a speaking lesson. Ss will start it with two receptive tasks as a kind of preparation to perform their productive task which is practicing telling their own story.

Materials

Abc • New Cutting Edge Intermediate student book.- Picture for the story - a thirty second horror film

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Telling a story in the context of a ghost story

Subsidiary Aims

  • • To provide clarification of specific information and detailed listening in the context of a ghost story. • To provide clarification of publishing lexis in the context of "Tell a ghost story".

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the class a 30 second video , and I will ask the Ss to tell me anything about the video. They can tell what type of film is it, what they expect to happen.....etc.

Preparation (7-10 minutes) • To give Ss time to prepare ideas on the coming productive task

EX1 Set a class gallery before the lesson to save time. Namely hang the pictures on the wall in the same order as they are in the book pages 108& 109 . this will be on two areas in the class Give Ss some labels and give them enough time to check them. Ask Ss to go to the areas and label the pictures. Give them a written feedback. Ex 2 Ss go to their gallery and they put the pictures in the correct order. Write the answers on the right corner of the pictures . Make them invisible.

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Give Ss a handout about the useful language. Let them work in pairs This is will be good scaffolding for them. Remind them with the importance of using these expressions when they tell a story. Stick the sheet on the gallery.

Productive Task(s) (7-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss work in pairs they think about these questions ; a- How does the story begin? b- How will you describe the characters and places? c- How does the story end? d- How can you make the ending more dramatic and and interesting for listeners? They can write down their answers. Ask each couple to tell their work.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Give enough praising feedback for the students work . Write on the board the students` mistakes and ask the students to correct them.

Productive Task Two - In case of enough time (5-8 minutes) • to give ss time to listen and speak

Ss listen and write down answers to the questions. Then each student will discuss with his -her partner what is similar and what is different. Give enough feedback
