To provide fluency speaking practice in adialogues in the context of making suggestions
To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about birthday party in the context of making suggestions
Procedure (20-40 minutes)
-Show the picture of a birthday party. Invite them to the brainstorming.Ask questions: Think about different things to do on a birthday. For instance, I like going to a nice restaurant on my birthday. (Write this sentence on the board) Now, write your ideas on the board. WCFB.
-Open the video and ask Ss: How many different ideas do you hear for the woman's birthday? Peer check. WCFB. Elicit "suggestions". -Watch the video again. Tell Ss: Number suggestions in the order you hear them. -Give the students HO and ask them to put the words in the correct order. -Peer check. Listen and check.
-Give Ss the speaking cards and tell them they are going to make suggestions using the pictures on the cards. Each student will have one card and ask questions walking around the classroom. They will ask their questions to three students. -ICQs: Are we sitting?-No. How many people do we talk?-Three? Monitor closely. Error correction.
-Tell Ss they will invite their friends to a dinner. They will work in pairs: A and B. A will ask questions. Give them the speaking HO. They will use the information on the HO. They will have 5 minutes for the activity. ICQs: Do we have 10 minutes? -No, 5 minutes. Who will ask questions?-A Monitor. Error correction.
