Description

In this lesson, SS will learn polite requests to communicate easily in everyday English.Firstly,teacher starts the lesson by asking some requests in the class.Then SS will match questions and pictures.SS will listen conversation about requests and practice the conversations.Lastly, some prompts will be given them and SS have a chance to practice and ask some requests to each other.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for polite requests for functional English in everyday conversations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using some conversations about polite requests and practice with students.

Procedure

Stage 1 (3-6 minutes) • Lead in

-Teacher starts the lesson with asking students some requests in the class. Could you turn on the lights,please? Can you open the door, please?etc. -Teacher sticks both some pictures and polite requests questions on the wall. SS decide with their partner and then ss who match picture with question read their questions and talk about the picture using polite requests.

Stage 2 (3-8 minutes) • To talk about the pictures and listen track

-Look at the pictures on page 45. -Ask CCQ 'Where is she/he?' -Firstly,ss read the conversation and guess the missing words with their partner. -Teacher monitors them. -Listen CD2: Track 18 and ss check their answers.

Stage 3 (2-4 minutes) • To define difference between Could I/ Can I or Could you/Can I..?

-Look at pictures in Exercise 1 and ask students which pictures are more polite -Write on the board to show their differences. Can/ Could I ...? (to ask for things) Can/ Could you...? (to ask other people to do things)

Stage 4 (5-7 minutes) • To listen and practice for intonation

-Listen CD 2: Track 19 and focus on attention on the intonation. - SS repeat each section of the sentences with paying attention to the intonation. - Teacher models and drills. -Listen again CD: Track 18 and practice the conversations in exercise 1. - Drills with whole class. - SS practice with their partner for exercise 1 and then come in front of the classroom and ask and answer for the polite requests.

Stage 4 (5-10 minutes) • To complete the requests with Can/Could I..? or Can/Could you..?

-SS complete the requests with their partner. -Listen and compare their answers. -Teacher asks 'Can you remember the replies?' and gives six students questions with requests and also gives six answers to the students.They stand up in front of the wall and the student who has questions finds the answer and then practices and reads both question and answer.Each student finds the question and answers.

Stage 5 (5-10 minutes) • To provide ss give some prompts to ask polite requests

-The teacher asks two students to read the example conversation in the class. -Teacher shows positive and negative answers and gives them the students. -Then,The SS choose two prompts with their partner.They will talk and create conversation with using positive and negative answers. -Then, they come in front of the class and practice the conversation.
