Description

In this lesson, ss focus on listening skills. The lesson starts with leading the ss to talk about their dream jobs. This is followed by teaching new vocabulary items. Ss listen to the audio for the gist and do the exercises related with the audio. At the end there is free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To practice Ss' skills -both listening for the gist and listening for specific information in the context of dream jobs.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, Ss will have learned vocabulary related to context of the lesson.

Procedure

Stage 1 (Leading) (3-4 minutes) • To get ready ss for the lesson

- T talks about her dream job. - T tells the ss to discuss in pairs about their dream job. - T asks the ss about their friends' dream job.

Stage 2 (Pre-teach vocab) (9-10 minutes) • To teach vocab before listening the audio

- T teaches new vocab with "ECDW" method. - T elicits vocab (straightaway, three-course meal, put on, furious, vineyard, exhausted, ruin, fascinating) PS: Further information is in the language analyse.

Stage 3 (Listening for gist) (7-8 minutes) • To provide listening for gist

- T gives the instructions and the HO's. - T asks ICQ's. "Are we matching the speaker to the photos?" - Ss listen to audio. - T pauses after the 1st person in order to do first one as an example. T asks ss opinion and gives the correct answer. - Ss listen to audio again to finish the rest of the activity. - T tells ss to check their answers in pairs and T elicits the answers and writes on the borad afterwards.

Stage 4 (Idea sharing) (2-3 minutes) • To provide ss time to think about the problems mentioned in the audio

- T tells ss work in pairs to think about the problems mentioned in the audio. (ex. 2B) - There aren't right or wrong answers and no feedback.

Stage 5 (Listening for specific information) (13-14 minutes) • To let ss to listen for specific information

- T tells the ss to take a look at questions in ex. 2C for a minute. - T reads the instructions in ex. 2C and T asks ss ICQ's "Are we going to write whole name or the first letter of the names?" - Ss listen to audio and T pauses when the 1st person finishes speaking. T does the 1st as an example. - Ss listen rest of the audio without pausing. T tells ss to check their answers in pairs. T monitors. Ss listen to audio again to check their answers. - T elicits the answers.(WC)

Stage 6 ("What is my profession?" role-play) (5-6 minutes) • To let ss to speak about different professions

- T tells ss to arrange their seats as semi-circle. - T writes a profession name in a piece of sticky paper. - T sticks these each paper to ss' forehead but ss should not see their own profession. - T tells them to talk about their professions without saying the profession name written on their forehead so that ss can guess what are their profession. - T asks ss to want to guess his/her profession first and other ss talk about the profession of 1st ss.
