Description

In this lesson, students will learn about life events and the meaning of celebration through guided activities based on talking about their special life days. Students will read blogs about people celebrate special days.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet the students and remember the students' names. Set the context of celebrations by showing them a birthday party photo. Tell them that is my birthday. Elicit what people do to celebrate their birthday.Write their ideas on the board: They dance, eat food, listen to music, eat birthday cake and give presents. T-s centered : Ask ss about their last birthday: was it big or small? Was it out or at home? Did you get a lot of gifts? Did you invite your friends?

Pre-reading:Vocabulary and speaking (10 minutes) • To activate Ss knowledge of life events and get the students ready for the reading task.

Put the life events on scrambled cards and ask ss to put them in correct order.Ex.1 You are born You get married You graduated you go to school You have a baby you retired You get a job Ss check their answers in different pairs. Ex.2 Tell ss to think of what people do when they get married.They celebrate at weddings, eat food etc.. Let ss discuss the questions in pairs.

Reading for a gist (10 minutes) • To get ss familiar with the general idea of text.

Ex.1 Ss read the three blogs and match them to life events CCQs: Are you going to read in pairs? No Are you going to match the blogs to life events? Yes A. you retire B. you get married C. you are born Ss check their answers in pairs. Then WGFB Ex2.Ss read the blogs again and match the statement 1-3 to the bogs CCQs: are you going to work in pairs? No Are you going to read the blogs? Yes Are you going to match them ? Yes Peer-check WGFB

Scanning the reading text (10 minutes) • Ss reads for specific information

Ex3. Ss read the text again and decide whether the sentences are true or false. CCQs: Are you going to read again? yes Are you going to decide true or false? Yes Are we going to correct the false ones? Yes Ss correct the false ones. Peer-check WGFB: Ss go around and check their answers.

Post- reading (10 minutes) • To provide ss with free practice of the target language to talk about their real life

Ss write their titles for their blogs and talk about their birthdays. Put them on the walls and let them chose the best.
