Description

In this lesson, SS will engage in using question tags. After a short lead-in, SS will be directed to 5A Exercise to begin with the lesson. Then, the lesson will roll into the other tasks one by one. SS must use their receptive(listening) and productive(writing) skills during the lesson. After 5B is completed by the SS, peer-checking will be conducted in the groups then a brief 'question tags' subject will be intoduced showing some examples from 136. page.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of question tags in the context of daily life.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily life.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-SS will be greeted - Seating might be changed if necessary - A funny cartoon will be on the whiteboard via OHP. (ICQ: What do you think about it?)

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To provide a clear understanding of the task and highlight the phrases when needed.

- Exercise 5A will be introduced and answered individually. - Then, answers of Exercise 5A will be compared to set of examples on Page 136. HO will be given. - Examples on Page 136 will be explained in short and requested PW.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills (Speaking & Listening)

Rules in 5B will be matched with those in 5A. Which is which? "Match the rules with the aswers of 5A" ICQ Page 136 will be on the whiteboard by that moment. Short explanations about question tags. E.g: Positive + Negative Verb Endings & vice versa. Elicit it. SS will involve. Intonation will be introduced asto how we can use the question tags effectively. (Vocalization example in short, repetition by WG.) - Exercise 6 will be introduced. PW will be set. Every answers intonation may be done in PW. (Accuracy)

Semi-controlled Practise (2-5 minutes) • To provide target language accurately

- Exercise 3 will be given in HO to SS. (ICQ: Circle the right answer with your partner) - PW is requested & peer-check will be realised soon after. (ICQ 2: Swap the answers with other pairs and check)

Listening (8-10 minutes) • To Improve Intonation of Question Tags

-Listening of 5.3 in Part 7 will be introduced for intonation of question tags. (Listen to intonation carefully) -How does it sound like? High or low? When does it go up? Does it go down afterwards? -Why? (Eliciting the affirmative or rejective) (showing on the whiteboard) -Imperative Tags in short (Listen what I say, will you?) - Instruction in Imperative Tag (Listen and repeat the questions in 6, will you?) about listening and repeating the questions, using same/similar intonation. ICQ in imperative tag: Listen and repeat what is said can you? (Yes, we can!) - 7C will be given with imperative tag "Make 6 sentences of yours and ask them to your partner can you? " (Pronunciation Accuracy)

Controlled Practise (3-6 minutes) • To assess and observe SS comprehension

-Exercise 4 will bi introduced. (HO). (ICQ: As Group of 3, answer and check questions together.) - Group of 3 work is on. - Group check will be requested at the end.

Freer Practise (Speaking) (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to generate their own sentences

- Section 8 will be introduced using exercises below: 1- 2- The class will be divided into 2. (A & B) 2- Random words will given to the students that might be probably in their daily lives. 3- They will be thinking about it in one minute. 4- Exchange paperps with the other group. 5- Read them aloud to ask and answer the questions.
