Giving Directions

Description

In this lesson, students will learn giving directions in a real world concept by asking and answering about directions. They will practise on new words and will support their learning with receptive listening skill and productive speaking activities.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for giving directions in the context of asking directions and giving answers in a shopping mall

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a pair work activity in the context of asking directions and giving answers in a shopping mall
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about directions in the context of in the context of giving directions in a shopping mall

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • activating student's knowledge and setting up the context

Teacher sticks some pictures on the board and asks where they see them. Teacher elicits the answers. When someone say shopping mall, teacher gives a shopping mall plan to students. She asks them to check the signs on it. She ask them to match the sign with their names in 3 minutes. She ask them to check it with their friend. She asks them to listen the audio and check their answers.

Listening for spesific information (4-6 minutes) • Listening for spesific information

T asks students to lşsten to four dialogues and tick the places they hear in each dialogue. T tells them they will do the first one together. T elicits the answer for the first one. T asksstudents to listen to other 3 dialogues and tick the places they hear. T asks students to check their answers with partners and later shares the answers.

Listening for spesific information (4-5 minutes) • Matching the statements with the correct dialogues

T ask students to check the plan on their desk again. T tells them they are going to listen the audio again T asks them to match sentences with the places on the desk while listening. T shares the answers by putting the key on their desk.

Functional Language (3-5 minutes) • Giving Directions

T opens a "giving directions" video on board. T asks what questions they heard. T ask which answers the person got.

Functional Language (4-5 minutes) • giving directions and making questions

T tells students that she is going to Show some Pictures on board. T ask students to complete the directions with the words in box after each Picture. When it is finished, T ask them to check it with their partners. T shares the answers with them.

Listening for spesific information (4-5 minutes) • Completing the sentences with correct direction word

T ask stduents to listen and complete the sentence. T asks them to check their answers with their partners. T shares the answers on board.

Direcitons (10-15 minutes) • Giving and asking for directions

T asks students to check the plan on their sheet. T tells them their location. T asks them to make questions about how to go to the places in the map. Teacher monitors the students and notes their mistakes. At the end, she corrects the mistakes by eliciting answers method.
