T asks Ss to tell what they know about these people and give them a few minutes to think. Then T introduces Picasso and Hemingway by asking them to look at the pictures and discuss questions in exercise 2 in pairs.

Pre-Reading (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T gives the vocabulary worksheet and ask Ss to work in pairs. After Ss discuss, T does whole class feedback.

While-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

T asks Ss to discuss in pairs and do exercise 2 and 3 before reading. When students are ready, T asks half the class to read about Picasso and the other half to read about Hemingway and compare their answers in exercise 2 and 3 with a partner after they finish reading. T does whole class feedback.

While-Reading #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading task

T asks students to read through the questions in exercise 5 and refer back to the text to find the answers. T makes sure Ss take brief notes to answer the Qs. She monitors and helps. Then she goes through the answers as a class after they finish the task.

While-Reading #3 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with guessing the meaning words from context task

T asks Ss to look at the words in exercise .. and discuss what part of speech they are in pairs. Then T tells students to find the words in the texts and guess their meanings to match them with the definitions. T does whole class feedback.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks Ss to work in A/B pairs so each has read a different text. They work together and discuss to come up with three or four similarities and differences between Picasso and Hemingway. They share their ideas with the whole class.
