Description

In this lesson, students will first start with two listening activities which will expose them to the target language (countable and uncountable nouns) in the contexts of food and diets. The next stage will be the clarification of the target language followed up by controlled practice activities to help them prepare for a freer activity that provides speaking fluency using the target language.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of coutable and uncountable nouns in the context of food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about diets
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a brainstorming in the context of 'diet'

Procedure

Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss a picture to elicit the word 'diet' Ss listen to a recording about three different diets Ss underline the correct answer Check-in pairs W/C FB

Exposure/Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a listening text and draw Ss attention to the TL

Ss listen to the recording again to underline the correct words Ss check in pairs Play the recording again if necessary W/C FB

Clarification (3-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Use the two sentence 'You can eat fish and potatoes' and 'have some milk' to clarify MFP

Controlled Practice (6-9 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss work in groups to fill in the chart with the nouns from the listening text Show an example T monitors and helps when needed W/C FB
