Description

This lesson will cover using 'How much? & How many?' with countable and uncountable nouns (foods). Ss will learn to use these phrases when go shopping.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of asking how much and how many for countable and uncountable nouns in the context of foods

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a use how much and how many in the context of foods

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students and connect with the previous lessons.

Ss will see a picture of a kitchen. Ss should come to the board, make circles of food they saw in the pictures. ( I will try to let them write the names of the foods.

Exposure & hghlighting (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Set a context that contains countable & uncountable foods, besides how much and how many. Ss will underline the countable & uncountable foods, and they will have a look to how much and how many. Giving instructions and show the task onto the board, giving an example then handouts, PW for the task and W/C FB.

Clarification (8-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Show some food picture onto the board and elicit Ss to ask about quantity using how much and how many. Then, set some missing sentences onto the board to elicit the form: _____ _____ apples are there? _____ _____ water is there? _____ _____ coffee is there? _____ _____ сups of tea are there? Finally drilling naturally, break up, corally and individually drilling, (back chaining if necessary).

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Set fill gap Ex and Ss should fill with how much or how many to practice using them with countable and uncountable foods. the Ex will be shown onto the board, I'll give instructions, give an example then handouts. GW work on the task and FB. Then, W/C FB on the board.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and let

Set a conversation task about 'let's cook!'. Ss will make a conversation about cooking, they will have ingredients to ask about ( Do you need ___ to cook ___? How much/ many ____ do you need?). Ss will talk in pairs, exchange the pairs, W/C FB.
