Description

In this lesson, students will read 3 advertisements of an online shop. The lesson will start with questions about e-shopping and then according to the reading passage, few words will be elicited. A picture from Eezeemall.com will be analyzed and according to this picture, students will do a matching activity. After this, first they will do skim reading as they will match the passages with Eezeemall’s stores, then they will focus on the passage again and will answer few questions. At the end, they will do a speaking activity about e-shopping

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about e-shopping in the context of stores in a mall and its online shop

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a e-shopping in the context of how to shop online

Procedure

Lead in (7-8 minutes) • Getting their attention about e-shopping

I’ll ask few questions about online shopping: - do you like shopping? -do you prefer shopping in a big mall? -have you ever done an online shopping? -why do you prefer it? -do you think online shopping is reliable? -what are the steps of e- shopping? -pros&cons?

Focus on meaning/ pre-reading (7-8 minutes) • to have them get ready for the reading passage

I'll elicit few words discount release bargain basement I'll tell them the vocablaries, give the meanings and repeat them few times. Then I’ll give them a gap filling activity according to the passage that they will read. They will do the activity in pairs. When they finish it, I’ll hang up the answers on the board. I’ll hand them out exercise 2 and we will analyze the picture first. -what is the picture about? -what kind of stores do they have? -What services do they offer? -what will you find when you click on …… button?

Controlled practice/ pre-reading (5-7 minutes) • to have them understand the instructions for online shopping

In pairs they will do the exercise 1. When they finish, they will get into groups of 4 and discuss their answers. Meanwhile I’ll write the answers on the w/b and later they will check the answers

Semi-controlled practice/ while-reading (5-5 minutes) • To have them do scan reading

Before the activity I’ll tell them that they will work in groups of 3 and I’ll give them 1 different paragraph each. They will read the paragraphs in 10 seconds and write which store it is about. When I blow my whistle they will swap the paragraphs in their group. They will do this 3 times and at the end they will write the name of the stores under the correct paragraph number on the board.

Semi-controlled practice/while-reading (5-7 minutes) • to have them understand what they read by checking with the questions

I’ll hand out the questions from exercise3 and the paper of 3 paragraphs. They wıll answer the questıons according to the passage and the picture from Eezeemall.com. When they finish reading, they will answer the questions in pairs. After this, they will get into groups of 4 and discuss their answers.I'll write the answers on the board

Speaking/ post reading (10-10 minutes) • to have them speak about e-shopping

I'll give 5 questions to the pairs. While they are discussing about e-shopping , I'll go around the class and listen to their answers.
