Description

In this lesson, students will focus first on vocabulary 'adjectives' to talk about feelings, then the receptive skill of listening for specific information in the context of sports event and in the end they will practice formulating questions about feelings, preparing them for the semi-controlled speaking activity to practice fluency.

Main Aims

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Shows Ss pictures of happy people Ss describe the pictures briefly Elicit the word "happy" Writes "what makes you happy?" Ss write 3 things that make them happy T asks ss to check their answers in pairs Discussion

Exposure (7-10 minutes) • To help Ss understand vocab. in the context of feelings to prepare them for the next activity

Ss work individually to match the sentences with the pictures Pair check W/C FB Clarify the vocab. as necessary

Listening for inference (8-10 minutes) • To help Ss practice listening for the attitude of the speakers

Show Ss a picture to elicit 'sports event' Ss listen to the recording and put the sentences from the previous ex in order Play the recording again Pair check W/C FB Model and drill the sentences

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss work individually to underline the correct words Pair check their answers W/C FB Ss work in pairs to rearrange the words to make questions W/C FB

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and provide Ss with a fluency speaking activity

Ss work in pairs and ask the questions from the previous ex Monitor and take notes for some error correction W/C FB
