In this lesson, students train a receptive skill, gist & specific information reading. about Vancouver, Canda. Also, they learn new vocab and adjective to discuss cities.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading about descriping a city in the context of Vancouver city.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice vocabulary about a city in the contect of Vancouver city.

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students talking about a city.

Show Ss the flag of Canda onto the board then show them its map. Ask them 'what do you know about Canda?' COLD, FAR, GOOD ECONOMY, ALWAYS SNOWING. I will show them Vancouver as a word and ask them what do they think about the city,

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible usnig some vocab related to the text.

Adapt Ex 2 to make it matching activity, Ss will have handouts contain the new vocab and pictures. PW then W/C FB by giving Ss papers have the same vocab to stick them onto the board with the related picture.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading tasks

Set Ex3 P.60 by matching the headlines with the paragraphs. Give Ss instructions (read it fast, look for keywords), Class read paragraph one, handouts then monitoring, Listen to the track for FB.

While-Readind #2 (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging task, to read for specific information

Adapt Ex4 to make it two choices answers (choose the correct answer), Ss read the text again for the specific information, work individual, W/C FB.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Set a personalise Ex, Ss should talk about Istanbul. I will but questions about the city and they will write down ono the board.
