Description

In this lesson, students will focus first on vocabulary to talk about types of movies then the receptive skill of listening for gist, specific and detailed information in the context of a tv programme and in the end the productive skill of speaking to practice fluency in the context of movies and books.

Main Aims

  • To give Ss practice in listening for specific information and detail through the context of TV programme called Actor! Author

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of the vocabulary about kinds of TV shows in the context of TV shows
  • To provide fluency speaking in the context of films and books

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss a picture of someone holding the remote control to elicit "watching tv" Show Ss a short clip to elicit "movies"

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text they will listen to and make it accessible

Ss work individually to match the pictures to the words ex1 Check-in pairs Elicit answers W/C Model and drill some of the vocabulary Ss work in pairs to do ex 2 Ss work in groups to do ex 3 Monitor to make sure they understood the vocabulary Take some general FB

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Show Ss pictures of some Tv programmes and elicit 'tv programme' Ss listen to the beginning of the recording for ex 1 Pair check Elicit the rules of the show w/c FB W/C demo for ex 2 Ss guess in pairs before playing the answer

While-Listening #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Ss read the task Ss listen again to the recording and individually do ex 3 Check-in pairs Ss listen to the recording again to check W/C FB

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide Ss with a fluency speaking practice in the context of films and books

Give Ss different handouts A & B ex 4 Ss work in pairs to interview each other Ss change partners
