Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about a Fashion Model, Gina Macy in the context of her answers to fans on the website

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of question words in the context of Gina Macy's answers to her fans on the website


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss your favorite song Tell them to ask you the question for favorite song Elicit the question sentence "What's your favourite..?" from Ss Tell them ask you more questions. Write some categories on the board like "food, drink, sport, city, song" Demonstrate an example dialogue. Tell them work in pairs, ask and answer questions Monitor them if they needed help.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Gina's photo to Ss Let them guess about her Who is Gina? Tell them ask and answer question about her in pairs. Elicit their guesses about her. Show them the text on the w/b Ask them where the text is from. Newspaper? Book? Introduce Gina and Make it clear it's a website and Gina is answering her fans' questions Check if their guesses are close

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Tell them to guess Gina's favourite city, designer, day and food in pairs Ask this by drawing a big question mark on the w/b What's her favourite city, designer, day and food? Please only take notes Give them the text Ask them to check their answers about her favourites in pairs by asking and answering Pre-teaching vocabulary Group them into three and tell them to find the words for the pictures on the board Ask them to check with other groups When they find them all (Put them on the left of the board which can help during the reading.) Nominate Ss to write the answers under the pictures Model and drill words on the board

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Get the texts back from Ss Check their understanding of question concept Show them pictures to elicit words from them Then show some possible answers for questions words on the board as jumbled. Tell them to discuss it with their partners. Nominate them to come and match them. Highlight the meaning of "why?" with examples Highlight the answer of "why?" which is " because.." Write pronunciations and model and drill. Group them into three Remind them Gina, show them questions for Gina on the w/b Tell them to fill in the gaps as a group Give a whole class feedback on the w/b Show them the text parts on the wall As a group go and find the answers

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

With the answers of the text Ss can Role-play tell them one of the pairs is Gina They will ask and answer questions Show an example dialogue in open class Now it's their turn with their partners Monitor and take notes of good language and errors Give delayed FB for errors Collect the text parts from the walls and say What do you remember about Gina? Show them HO Tell them there are mistakes Correct the mistakes Check your answers with the partner
