TP2
Upper Intermediate level

Description

The Ss already know these verb forms and have seen present simple and continuous with future use, but they have had little practise bringing all 4 forms together and choosing between them. The listening provides the source for the language samples and maintains the context from the previous lesson. If the CD hasn’t arrived you can either decide to 1) record the listenings from the tapescript and play them like that, 2) read the listening texts aloud for a live listening or 3) copy the tapescripts and turn this (& your lesson aims) into reading.

Subsidiary Aims

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Listening

Students should listen to five people but before that, I will give them the table to know what the topic is about

Gist (10-12 minutes) • Listening

Give Ss the chart in Listening ex1. Focus Ss on the choices. Ss listen and complete the chart. Ss check their answers with their peers – then take FB (maybe draw the same chart on the w/b while Ss are listening – Ss come to the w/b and complete it)

Specific information/detail (10-12 minutes) • Listenng and speaking

Focus Ss on the statements in ex2. Ss discuss in pairs if they remember if they are True/False. Ss listen and check. – Ss check their answers in pairs. Take FB (or prepare answer keys to put on the walls for Ss to check against).

Personalisation (14-16 minutes) • Speaking

Ss in pairs/small groups discuss the question in ex3. Take some general FB.

Language focus (8-10 minutes) • Grammar

Grammar ex1. Focus Ss on the sentences from the listening. Ss work in groups to work complete ex1 and discuss what they know about their future forms. Take FB. Be ready to deal with any questions – using the examples to help them understand the difference.
