Main Aims

  • To provide practice of using gerund after some verbs in the context of Shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening and reading practice using a text about Shopping-men love it ! in the context of Shopping

Procedure

Lead-in/ Set context (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

* Ss see pictures of different kind of things that people like buying and answer yes/no questions about them. ex; Do you like buying watches? Do men like shopping? *Ask Ss to look at activity 1a and tick the things they like buying. * Elicit the Ss sentences and make a class survey for men and women.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation *To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language *To draw students' attention to the target language

* Ask ss to look at the 4 pictures on the HO and give them the instructions needed to match the dialogues to the pictures before listening. *Play the audio. * Check in pairs and give feedback. * Ask ss to read the sentences on the HO and give them the instructions needed and demo one of the sentences to fill in the gaps before listening. *Play the audio. * Check in pairs and give feedback. * ask the students to complete the chart in ex 2a and give feedback.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

*Ask ss to write sentences about Matt with Like , not like , love , or hate and a verb, do demo with no. 1 and let the ss check in pairs and give feedback

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

* Ask ss to make true sentences with Like , don't like , love , or hate and compare it with a partner using these phrases : #buy clothes #try on clothes #go shopping with my family #shop on Saturdays #go to big supermarkets # go to B-Tech #buy cars # go shopping with my wife/husband. * Ask Ss to read the article and complete with Men or Women. * Ask ss to work in pairs and check answers. * Ask Ss to work in pairs read the article again and underline one thing they think is true and one thing they think isn't true.

Flexi stage (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with semi controlled practice of the target language

* SS complete a table with information about their free time activities and then find a partner who has the same likes and dislikes.. *Give one card per students and explain the form. * Go through the instructions. Tell SS they're going to find a partner to spend a perfect weekend with.
