Description

In this lesson , Ss will learn and practice new vocabulary in the context of Taking a Taxi .They will also have the chance to practice their speaking skills in the same context , and this will be followed by a listening exercise to practice listening for gist and for details as well

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and review of different vocabulary related to taxi in the context of taking a taxi

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice and gist and details listening practice using exercises in the context of taking a taxi

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Greet Ss - Show Ss a very short video and elicit the topic to set a context - Give Ss /HO1/ which has the vocabulary and the speaking sections . - Give Ss instructions about ex.1 and answer one of the questions as an example . - Let them fold their HO and do only the speaking ex.1 in pairs / groups

Exposure and Clarification (8-9 minutes) • To provide a context and to clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of TL

- Ask Ss the question "What can we find in a taxi " and elicit some words from the Ss - Show the Ss a set of pictures related to the same vocabulary . - Try to elicit the vocabulary from Ss before saying them - Practice pronunciation and drill together and have some weak Ss repeat after you

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- Ask Ss to do ex.2 p.34 in pairs/groups - Do one of the sentences to show them how to answer this exercise - Let the Ss check in pairs and groups - Show the Ss the answer key on HO1 and let them check their answers

Speaking Practice (3-6 minutes) • To prepare students for listening practice

- Ask Ss to do ex.3 on p.34 - Monitor and see if anybody needs to be prompted to speak

Listening for main points (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with listening practice to find specific information

- Give Ss /HO2/ - Ask Ss to listen to ex.1 P.35 quickly and answer in pairs - Let Ss check their answers in pairs/groups - Give them the answer key /HO3/ and let them check in pairs

Listening for detail (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with detail listening practice

- Ask Ss to listen to ex.2 p.35 and let them answer the questions - Play the audio again if needed - Let them check in pairs/groups - Give them the answer key /HO2/ and let them check in pairs

Free Speaking Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free speaking practice

- Ask Ss to do ex.3 and speak in pairs/groups - Monitor and take notes of Ss mistakes - Give Ss feedback on their speaking and mistakes
