Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of music styles in the context of music

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes)

Re-introduce yourself. Connect your context to the previous lesson and introduce the idea of music festivals (is there a well-known Turkish example you could use?).

Focus on Vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • focus on vocabulary

Ss can work in pairs and then check with other pairs. When you elicit the answers in whole-class feedback (w/c FB), ask for examples to check meaning, and drill the pronunciation a bit.

Pre-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Do ex. 1 on p. 11. Let them compare with each other, and ask for a few answers from the group in w/c FB.I play some pieces of music clips related to the bands in ex. 1 and ask them to guess which clip matches which group.Students may guess the genres they read in the text.

Pre-Listening (1-1 minutes) • Introduce the context

Set the context of the listening (introduce Cameron and John a little bit)

Gist Listening (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Do ex. 2.Play the recording once, get them to check their answers in pairs, and then elicit the answers quickly.

Detailed Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference Listening tasks

Don’t do ex. 3a/b Instead, design a few comprehension questions (max. 5) about the recording and put them on a HO. Give Ss a minute to read through the task before they listen. Have the Ss check their answers in pairs, and monitor to decide if you need to play the recording a second time., and then elicit answers (ask them why/how they knew the answer) comprehension questions: - When is the festival? - How do they want to buy the ticket? - What music style does Terem Quart play?

Post-Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Get the Ss to talk to each other about a music festival that they have been to/would like to go to. Or expand it to a concert they’d like to attend. Re-pair them to discuss again. Elicit a few of the topics they discussed in w/c FB.
