In this lesson, students learn some lexis about hair through some speaking tasks. The lesson starts with an activity in which, students help their favourite animation characters to find their hair which they had lost. Then, teacher clarifies some lexis about hair using ECDW technique, which includes eliciting, concept checking, drilling, and writing. After that, there are some tasks to ensure students' understanding.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in discussions in the context of hair description.


Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will help their favourite animation characters to find their hair that they had lost, and I will control the activity through giving the instructions and monitoring.

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will have a short discussion with the students about their favourite animation characters trying to describe them and their beautiful hair.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will highlight the lexis that I want to teach my students during our discussion about the animation characters.

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, and pronunciation of the target language

I will teach my students the meanings of the lexis that I had highlighted. I will depend on eliciting rather than telling my students the meanings directly. I will use some concept checking questions to ensure the students' understanding of the meanings. I will also ask the students to repeat the words after me to teach them the right pronunciation of the words.

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will show my students some pictures, and ask them some questions about them. The answers to these questions include the newly learned lexis.

Free Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to act that they are their favourite animation characters and talk about their hair using the newly learned lexis.
