Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information, detailed, deduction and inference listening practice using a text about buying clothes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a in buying clothes in stores

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Sts open their books and go to page 42 and do exercise 1 in pair. Then we check the answers together.

Pre-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Sts work in pair in order to do a matching exercise related to buying clothes . Then we check the answers together.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Sts open their book and go page 42, part 3. They watch the movie and answer the 3 questions in part 3 individually. Then I ask them to compare their answers with their partners. Finally we check the answers together.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students go to page 43 , watch the movie again and complete the 'You Hear" phrases in exercise b. We check the answers together. Then They repeat the dialogue with their partner.

Post-Reading/Listening (11-14 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pairs, sts practice buying clothes by role-playing. A student becomes salesperson and the other becomes the customer. They role-play buying clothes together and change roles.
