Description

In this lesson , Ss will read an article with some tasks and questions.The context is defending supermarkets and good points of shopping there . Ss will also review some vocabulary about food,then they will practice have speaking practice in the context of food and cooking .

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about good points of shopping in supermarkets in the context of supermarkets and small shops

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of food words in the context of supermarkets and small shops
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation about meals,cooking,and buying food in the same context

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Greet Ss - Write a question on the W/B -Why do you like supermarkets and what do you buy from there? and let Ss speak in pairs/groups about it . - Use this time to give Ss /HO1/ which has the article and the questions

Pre-Reading (6-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Let the Ss read the title of the article and see what they think the article is about - Listen to what the Ss will say about Judi's article about supermarkets - Write their statements on the WB - Pre-teach some of the words in the article

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

- Ask Ss to read the article quickly /skimming or gist reading/ and do Ex.2 P.27 in pairs/groups (Note:First , do the 1st paragraph together to show them how to do it) - Let the Ss have a short time to check the answers in pairs/groups - Give Ss the right answers W/C FB - Check the sentences on the board with Ss and see if they gave good predictions about the article

While-Reading #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

- Ask Ss to read the article -deep reading- and then do ex.3 P.27 in pairs,but first answer one of them together to show them what exactly the task is - Let the Ss check their answers in pairs/groups - Give Ss an answer key for ex.3 /HO2/ and let them check the answers in pairs/groups

Post-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Show Ss some food pictures -using projector- and see how many of them they know - Drill the food words while showing the pictures to Ss . - Ask Ss to do ex.5+6 in pairs quickly and then let them look at the article and check their answers in pairs - For speaking practice now , let Ss do ex 4 . Monitor and listen to errors - Regroup Ss and change seats - Let Ss do ex 7 . Monitor and give W/C FB
