TP2 - Past continous tense

Description

In this lesson students will learn how to use past progressive tense, this lesson is based on grammar, the context of the lesson is same as the lesson before this. Students will learn the meaning of the past progressive tense and use it in speaking activity with their peers. Students will also work on Pronunciation past progressive tense. The lesson will start with the review of the simple past tense with the example sentence from the context which will be taught in the class prior to mine by Emine, then students will practice the progressive tense using the same context. This grammar activity will be totally based on eliciting by, as the lesson will start with sentence on the board and students deciding its tense and giving more information to the CCQ's. Then the feedback will be given to students or assistance if needed. After the grammar is finished students will move on to activities, which consist of one controlled and one semi controlled activity. The feedback will be taken after activity and any errors will be discussed and the pronunciation will follow. Students will drill for pronunciation. The lesson will finish with a quick glance at the topic discussed in the lesson.

Procedure

Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To remind the student context of the previous lesson as this lesson uses the

I will lead in by mentioning and writing one of the names from the reading context, which is Kelly. And continue asking more questions about Kelly.

Grammar review (3-5 minutes) • To review past simple as it will be used later on with past continuous tense

I will quote one of the questions from the text in the students book page no. 20 and make students elicit about the tense and meaning and form of the sentence

Input grammar (8-10 minutes) • To introduce past continous tense and practice it

I will again quote one more sentences from the reading text and elicit the answers from the students and explain the meaning grammar using PPP method, i.e. by student elicitation and then explain the form and finally pronunciation and practice

Activity 1 (5-8 minutes) • to give better understanding of the past continous tense and reading

I will set an example with a volunteer student and a realia which will be a book or a pen. After this demonstration students will be asked to find the sentences from the text, where past continuous and past simple are used together.

Grammar activity 1 (5-8 minutes) • to let students understand the meaning and use of past continuous

I will give students the flash card which contain the picture and other flash card containing questions. Students will check the picture first and then answer the questions. This will be done in groups, and students will discuss the picture card first before answering the questions.

Activity 2 (5-8 minutes) • to practice the use of past continuous freely

Students will be given a sheet with some questions, whose answer will be in past continuous tense and students will be asked to discuss those questions with their peers Note: if students find this task easy the teacher will make it difficult by extending questions and making students to get more details from their partners
