Description

In this lesson, Ss will be able to talk about personal qualities by getting examples of some millionaires' traits. In addition to vocabulary, they are going to read the text "Have you got what it takes?" which is about how to become a millionair and what charactheristics millionaires have.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss needed vocabulary such as "aggressive, ambitious, indecisive, competitive..." to be able to talk about personal qualities in the light of millionaires' examples

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scanning and detailed reading about millionaires' personal traits and attitude towards money.

Procedure

Stage 1 Warm-up (3-4 minutes) • To activate Ss' previous knowledge and introduce our topic

- T shows some milllionaires' photos, elicits whether Ss know these people or not. (ıf it is needed, T writes their name on the board) T asks "What is the common thing between these men?" T gives Ss 1 min to discuss in pairs "What are the general personality qualities of millionaires?" W/C F/B - T pre-teaches "entrepreneur, self-made millionaire" and drills them. (ECDW)

Stage 2 (Vocabulary) (15-17 minutes) • To provide clear understanding of needed vocabulary (personality qualities)

-T gives Ss HOs about personality traits and tells them to skim the 3 paragraphs in 1 min to guess which 3 jobs they are. Ss work solo, then check with their pair. O/C F/B - T directs Ss the bold words in the paragraphs and ECDW "competitive, indecisive, think outside the box, ambitious" to make them ready to match their definitions in the 2nd part. Ss work alone and check answers with their partner. O/C FB. T asks CCQs to make sure about comprehension. - T asks Ss to look at 2 vocab worksheet and to complete the sentences with the adjectives. ECDW. P/W . T shows the ansswers on the smartboard.

Stage 3 Reading (15-17 minutes) • To provide scanning and detailed reading

- T groups Ss in 3 using colours. folds the worksheet and directs Ss to think about questions about millionaires and to decide T or F. gives the reading text and wants them scan it and check their answers. scanning solo, pair check. O/C F/B - T unfolds the questions' paper and asks Ss to find the answers for questions in 5- min. group check. T puts the answer sheet around the class, wants one S in each group to run to their colour, to read- memorise and to dictate their team.

Stage 4 Follow-up (2-3 minutes) • To create atmosphere for Ss discuss about topic

-Tdirects Ss to 4A -B part, gives each quesition 1 min. to discuss and compare about the traits of millionaires and T asks them to give an example for their idea. Ss mingle in the class
