A Lesson on creative story writing using 3 objects

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a Creative Story in the context of imaginary objects

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of discussing objects and story plot

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be introduced to an Imaginary world as they step onto a rug/ parachute, a bag will be used to create an imaginary place where objects are found. Ss will observe the teacher pulling an "energy ball" from the bag first being used to pass "energy" around - This will create an understanding of magic and imagination.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Teacher Reaches into the bag and pulls 3 objects out and uses them to make a story which is told to the Ss vocally. Ss in Pairs then pull out their objects and write them on paper, Ss then discuss their objects together and write down ideas for a story. Monitor and support with language.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss then create a list of useful words for their story Ss then check with their friends and exchange extra words Ss then write how we start a story on the board / large paper

Productive Task (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss the discuss with their partner how the story will start and discuss their story ideas. Ss will then write their story in pairs Ss then swap their stories with other pairs for peer error correction. Ss then present their stories to the group. Teacher monitors and records errors

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Following monitoring WG: Any errors are fed back offering peer review change and check Session ends
