Description

In this lesson students will do revision of Present Continuous. The lesson will be interactive and student centred.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of the present continuous in the context of every day routine / hobbies.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of every day routine / hobbies.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T projects a picture on the board and asks students : 'What are they doing at the moment?' T elicits answers from students. Then teacher says close your eyes and think of someone you love in your family and think what are they doing now? Students make their own sentences.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T hands out envelops to the groups. Asks students to order the sentences one by one. Students do drilling with WC.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T sticks a paper in the classroom which says : Now and Everyday. T gives instructions. Then students stand up and when T reads the sentences the students decide if the action happing now or everyday. Ex: I am taking shower now or I always brush my teeth.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T puts the students in groups. Then sticks A 3 papers on the wall and gives students some colourful papers. Students stand up and read the sentences on the wall. Then they stick the correct verbs in the sentences. When the students finish the activity they turn over the A3 paper and see the answer key behind. T gives some feedback afterwards.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Charades Game Students will practice the present continuous tense in this traditional game of acting and guessing. Shuffle the cue cards and place them in a bag or a small box. Explain that one student will silently act out an activity. The class must guess what the activity is, using the present continuous tense. T demonstrates one example for the students. Ex: You are listening to a radio! Ask for one volunteer to mime the first cue card. The

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives handouts to the students. Students finds the differences in the pictures and tell their partners. T monitors the students during the activity. When students finish the activity T gets feedback from them.
