Description

in this lesson, students learn about the present perfect tense through guided discovery based on a reading text about a vacation. The lesson starts with a discussion about vacations. This is followed by reading where students read and relate stories about vacations. Finally, there is some controlled practice and free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of the present perfect tense. in the context of Vacation brochures.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation. in the context of Vacation brochures.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss a question using the target language like (Have you been to Cairo before?) and then ill ask them (Have you been outside Egypt?) and then ill use (have been & has been in my sentences.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'll provide a context contains the target language with Highlights of it, set time for the reading like 3:4 minutes, and then Ss will do some activities about the context including the target language, I'll give them the chance to solve it alone and then I'll let then check in pairs and then I'll give then feedback.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, I'll show the form of the present perfect and the two use of it and I'm going to compare it with the past simple tense on the whiteboard and then checking students understanding to the target language, and then I'll do some drills on the pronunciation of the word (Been & 'iv).

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, I'll give students handouts to practice the structures of the present perfect tense in the positive and negative and questioning form so I can check their understanding of the present perfect tense through some simple activities, I'll give my instructions and then I'll let them check in pairs and then I'll give them feedback and correction.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In this stage, I'll give Ss a handout includes a list of regular and irregular verbs and then I'll ask them to create sentences about themselves using these verbs and I'll let them check their answers together and talk about it and I'll ask some of them to tell me about his partner sentences.

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage change partners and ask them to speak about themselves using the tenses that they wrote about themselves and then I'll choose some of them to tell me about his partner sentences.

The Game (6-8 minutes) • Learning the target language by personalize it through a funny game.

In this stage, I'll ask Ss to choose a place that they went to before whether it's true or a lie using (I have been to) and I'll choose one of them to say that in front of the class and I'll give the whole class papers to write on it numbers from 0-10 and they will rate each one's lie using the numbers on papers, and I will write the score of each one on the whiteboard and in the end we will decide the winner.
