To provide practice speaking using a text about Family in the context of Family characteristics.
Procedure (42-56 minutes)
The topic of families is introduced in the lead-in stage using a trailer for the movie 'Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story'. After the video, I will ask them the importance of 'Family' in our lives and the impact of the family in each one of them.
First, I will give my instruction which is, the students read the text and underline the Adjectives that can be used to describe family members Individually. Then I will ask them to check in pairs, followed by feedback.
I will show the students pictures using PowerPoint slides and try to elicit the word that describes the picture from them. Then I will give them CCQs to make sure that they got the meaning. Then I will drill the word three times then I will ask them to drill as groups. Then i will give them the form. Note(I can start with Form first before the drilling).
A small Matching exercise: Siblings: happy: cheerful: loving: stressed: intelligent: sincere: strong: proud: humble: tough: role model: With the list of their meaning 'We have words and the meaning while chesting, try to match the words with their meaning' Teacher demonstrates the first word. First individually then Pair work, Then giving the feedback.
I will divide the class into two groups and let each group choose one person to represent them, this person will sit facing the students with his back facing the board, the second team will choose a word and write it on the board, and the first team will have to describe it without saying the exact word. each team will get 2 minutes to get the word right. If a team got the word right, the team scores one point. The winner will take the cakes I prepared as a winner's prize.
I will ask the students to set in two groups back-to-back. Then I will divide them into pairs each student is a pair with the student behind his back. each pair will have a piece of paper, using this paper to send a message introducing himself and his family using the Adjectives in the past activities.
I will choose random students to describe their family members using the adjectives they learned during the past activities.
