Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Use Listening 2.4, page 13, activity 1 to set context and raise learner awareness of target language. Monitor and provide feedback and error correction as whole class.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Use Listening track 2.5 to elicit target language sentences from learners. Listen and repeat the questions. Highlight written form on the board. DRILL. Highlight What's and Where's: DRILL.

Page 13, part 3: Drill converstaion with whole class. (either use page 13, part 1 or consider providing learners with "people profile cards" similar to page 13, part 1) so learners can answer questions (what's___ name/ where's _____ from?) about the people in the profiles. Monitor. Provide feedback and error correction as a whole class, after student group time.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Consider asking "what is Istanbul" to elicit 'city' and "what is Turkey" to elicit 'country'. Provide learners a matching activity to decipher cities and their countries (consider including the items on page 14) Group check. Pose questions to learners to elicit "Where is (city name)" and "It's in (country name)" Highlight these sentences on the board. DRILL. Highlight 'Where's' and 'It's' meaning and pronunciation.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Page 14, part 2 : Have students practice saying dialogue using the pictures. Monitor and provide feedback and error correction as whole class.

Presentation (6-8 minutes) • To have students practice presenting to each other

Have learners get into groups of 4. Have each student pick one person the the photo (page 14, part 2) and present to each other.
