Description

In this lesson, students learn how to use"used to" through guided discovery in the listening context remember the days of the old schoolyard, the lesson starts with discussion about things you used to do at the schoolyard and the school in general. Teacher teaches new vocabulary using cards to help students for listening. Finally, there is some controlled practice and free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher expresses a video to generate interest and asks students do you have memories like this about your school? students have to talk to the teacher and tell him about their memories and things they did at the school in the past, each student has to participate and tells what happened.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher tells students that, they are going to listen to a song and asks can you guess what the song is about from the title. The teacher plays the song and asks students to listen and fill in the gaps, students check their answers in pairs then they check the answers as a class. The answers 1- had 2- had 3-laughed 4- needed 5- remember 6- cry 7- had 8- had 9- laughed 10- needed 11- remember

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher tells students that they are going to listen again and tell him how does the singer feel about his schooldays?where they a completely happy time?compare your opinions in one group.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher says I've got a list of sentences what I want to you to do is write in front of the sentences which one is a single action and which one is repeated action in the past or present, students check the answers together and the teacher gives feedback "used to"-" am used to" - " get used to"

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice and prepare them for the free practice

The teacher gives the students a controlled practice to test them about what they have gained from the lesson. 1-get used to driving. 2-used to go. 3-am still not used to 4-used to live 5-am used to finishing. 6-never get used to. 7-used to smoke. 8-never used to go 9-am used to driving 10-got used to living.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher tells students to talk in pairs each one tells his friend about things he used to do in the past, things he is used to doing it now and things he gets used to doing it.
