Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about words related to languages

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of words related to languages in the context of speaking and learning

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class starts with showing a picture about different languages and asking the question : "How many languages do you know and how did you learn them?" then students will have a short discussion in pairs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will pre-teach 2 words from the text using a power point, first ask them to match the pictures with the words then I will clarify the meaning, form and the pronunciation and have a repetition drill.for getting feedback students should do a task related to those words and fill the gaps. words: multilingual, demonstrate

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

students will be asked a question, they should skim the text and answer it then they will check their answers in pair. question:How did he learn different languages?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

students will read the text again and they should find specific information to answer some questions. questions like: which languages did he learn as a child?, which language does he like best?

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will teach 2 words in the text by using a power point and there will be an example of each word from the text and students are going to guess the answers for the concept check questions. words:frustrated, tactless then students are going to make sentences with the words.
