Description

In this lesson, students are going to listen to a song and then they will do activities to further discover the song in details and language points.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about love

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of expressions of love in the context of first love

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Teacher will start with a personal anecdote about his/her love life -Then 3 questions (slide 1) will appear on the OHP and students will be asked to ask and answer the questions in pairs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-In this stage, students are going to get HO1 which has the first sentences of each verse of the song -They will be asked to guess what the verse is going to be about in pairs -The song is going to be played and they will get the rest of the verse to stick on their papers

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students will play a game with 5 words/expressions extracted from the song -They will be divided into 2 groups -The words will be stuck on the board -each group will get the definitions and one by one they will come

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-At this stage, they have the whole song and now they will be asked to listen again and underline all the verbs that are used to express sth in the future -Then in pairs, they will check their answers -The teacher will under indicate the verbs using slide 3 -A quick clarification of the future indicating verbs will end this stage

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-they will listen to the song with the lyrics -Then they will get into pairs and they will try to write a song like this or change this song as they like for their own loved ones
