Description

This is a grammar lesson in the context of colours and clothes. In this lesson,students learn present continuous and practise in it in the context of colours and clothes.

Main Aims

  • To give students practice in the present continuous in the context of colours and clothes.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To clarify and give practice in vocabulary about colours and clothes and to practise speaking for fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Preteach the vocabulary: wear grey suit white shirt yellow T-shirt trainers blue jeans red jumper green jacket brown boots dress shoes

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Focus attention on the pictures of the people.Point to Nigel and elicit the missing words (suit and shirt). Tell Ss to complete the other descriptions in pairs.Check answers as a whole class.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Focus attention on the sentences in ex.1.Ask Ss to underline the -ing verbs in ex.1. Highlight that these verbs describe the actions happening now and around now.

Clarification/Presentation (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING: I am wearing a blue shirt now.Elicit my shirt on me and say Ss that I am wearing a blue shirt now. Ask CCQs about the sentences: - Am I wearing a blue shirt now? Yes - Can you see it now? Yes Clarify the form on the WB and the pronunciation. Write the sentence "I am wearing a blue shirt now." Clarify am/is/are and Ving and sentence stress and intonation on the sentence.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ex.2. Focus on the example. Describe a student without saying their name and get students to guess who it is.Ss continue in pairs. Highlight any errors after the task.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ex.3 Focus attention on the example and then talk about my clothes.Ss take it in in pairs to stand up and describe their clothes.

Free Practice (6-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ex.4 Focus attention on the language in the speech bubbles and elicit full answers.Do an example with one of the Ss and get them to do it in pairs.
