Description

In this lesson, students learn new vocabulary through guided discovery in the context positive characteristics, the lesson starts about discussion about characteristic we have (describe yourself). Teacher teaches new vocabulary using cards. Finally, there is some controlled practice and free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks students to describe themselves and their positive characteristics, teacher starts with himself then he asks students about themselves, each student has to add more sentences and talk about his personality traits.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Teacher tests students' prior knowledge, by quick activity about positive characteristics, students choose the correct answer, let them check their answers in pair; the feedback already follows the activity.

Teach (15-18 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Teacher clarifies areas of target language, which in this case is vocabulary (positive characteristics) by using ECDW Teacher shows cards to students and elicit some information then he asks CCQs to clarifies the word, it is followed by drill then the last stage is write the word ambitious /amˈbɪʃəs/ courageous /kəˈreɪdʒəs/ fair /fɛː/ imaginative /ɪˈmadʒɪnətɪv/ tolerant /ˈtɒl(ə)r(ə)nt/ clear-thinking /klɪə ˈθɪŋkɪŋ/ determined /dɪˈtəːmɪnd/ hard-working/ˌhɑːdˈwəːkɪŋ/ original/ɒˈrɪdʒɪn(ə)l//əˈrɪdʒɪn(ə)l/ talented/ˈtaləntɪd/

Test #2 (5-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Teacher gives the students an exercise to test what they have gained from the lesson Teacher asks them to read the vocabulary and match them with the suitable photo individually. They are supposed to check their answers in pairs then they share the answers with the teacher. Teacher asks students to discus with their partner by using student's book which of the traits should the people in the box be?why?

Free practice (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher says okay, now i want you to think of some one you admire, who has one of these traits and tell your partner about this person. Teacher tell the students to do the last activity, discuss these question together 1- Which of the characteristics above are important in almost any job? 2- Which characteristics are most important? which are unimportant to you?
