Description

In this lesson, students learn about how people like to dress through guided discovery based on 4 reading texts about fashion. The lesson starts with a brain storm about words related to the given headings. This is followed by: describing people's way of dressing and the taste of clothes. This is followed by a jigsaw reading where students read and relate the texts about how people like to dress. Finally, there's some controlled through finding which person?, vocabulary reformation and free practice via a final speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about clothes taste in the context of fashion

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a debate in the context of fashion
  • To provide review of dressing words in the context of fashion

Procedure

Warm-up/ lead in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

Teacher presents 3 headings ( clothes, shoes and accessories) and asks Sts. to think of as many words related to the headings as possible. Teacher draws some items on the WB and asks Sts to guess their initials to find out the hidden word.

Pre-Reading (4-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher shows the class some pictures, asks them to speak about each one and then to use the given key words on the board to describe each pic.. T. gives Sts some scraps ,asks them to choose which of the sentences best describes their taste in clothes.

While-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Students are asked to work in 4 groups to skim the texts for people's names, words related to clothes. Then to find out the given word(s) or phrases said by the teacher.

While-Reading (4-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Students are asked to scan each text to find which person is closest to their taste.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students are asked to match the given words to the right word Teacher asks Sts. to write an Sms. to Sebastian Ramsay telling her whether they agree to her quot. " you can't judge a book by its cover"
