Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for making offers in the context of buying a coffee

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of present continuous and present simple in the context of everyday activities
  • To provide review and practice of verb phrases in the context of everyday activities


Revision (30-35 minutes) • To provide Ss the opportunity to revise and practice grammar and vocabulary through speaking

Vocabulary Race (10min) 5ACommunicative Lists are on the board Ss take turns to run to the board, cross it and tell to the partner. After 6 words, they swap the roles Present continuous : (10 min) (Make sentences according to vocab from previous activity) Ss take turns to take cut-ups and mime the word or a sentance they see Open-class - Ss guess what he or she is doing Present Simple and Present continuous (10 min) Ss work in pairs Student A and B ask Q to complete the table

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the photos of Rob and Jenny Ss look at the photos and discuss the Q: Who is Rob? Where does he work/live? Who is Jenny? Where is she from? Why is she doing in London? Open-class FB

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss watch the video (Jenny and Rob meet) Task - What do they decıde to do? (Pair work) Ss watch again and mark sentences T/F (say why they are F) Peer -check Watch again with the tapescript (if necessary) or Provide a tapescript

Useful Language (25-30 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask Ss what do they say when they come to the coffee shop Ss look at the photos and try to come-up with some sentences (write them on the board) Then Ss look at the menu and discuss what the things are Elicit/Explain - regular/large How much is it? = What is the price? Ss watch the video and answer the questions Peer-check Provide the answer Ss watch again and complete the You Hear Phrases Peer-check Get FB from the Ss Ss check if their predicted phrases were correct Ss practice the pronunciation and rhythm of the Useful Language Ask Ss what happens the next day? Ss watch the video and answer the questions (play twice if necessary) Ss look at the phrases and decide who says them/ what they mean in their language Drill the pronunciation

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Role-play First Ss read the dialogues Ss Role-play the dialogue in groups of 3 Monitor and make notes of Ss' language. While monitoring focuse on the phrases. Encourage the Ss to use the phrases Get some Ss to perform in front of the class

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Write Ss' language on the board. Ss read and correct the mistakes Set a homework: 1) WB (PE2), 2) p.113 Post a picture in FB or İnstagram from holiday and write a post to say what you are doing
