Description

In this lesson, students learn about the past simple and infinitives. The focus is primarily on Grammar, but students will have a chance to use: speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills in this lesson.

Main Aims

  • At the end of the lesson the students will be able to recognize, identify and produce the Past Simple tense including the grammar rules pertaining to this tense.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will be able to use the Past Simple in the negative and in question form.

Procedure

Introduction of topic/grammar point. (1-3 minutes) • to introduce the grammar point

Greet students briefly, and explain you are continuing the lesson before you. Mention the word “infinitive” at one point, but do not stress it as students should already know. Write on WB after asking students for examples of the Simple Past.

Grammar (5-6 minutes) • Students will be able to conjugate the Past Simple

Students complete a chart conjugating infinitives to the Past Simple, they work in pairs alternating each time. We check answers as a class altogether

Students practice Past Simple while examining the grammatical rules as wells a the Negative formatio (5-7 minutes) • Students will know how to use Past Simple in negative form/question form

Students complete chart #2 and add the verbs into the appropriate boxes, they also add their own verbs.

Students will highlight the verbs they used from the previous activity and all other verbs in the past

Feedback, students work alone to complete this exercise. (5-10 minutes) • Feedback - checking for understanding of concepts

Students make a similar conversation to the one they completed, working in pairs, then T asks for volunteers to read their conversation aloud.
