Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn about life events. I will show the Ss a picture of some life events like marriage and graduation to set the context. Then, eliciting more example from the Ss. After that the students will be given a test on which Ss will have some life events and will be asked to put them in the correct categories. Next, pre-teaching the new vocabulary and after that Ss will have 5 exercise to do. Ss will check in pairs and I would give them the feedback. Finally, Ss will have a speaking activity to talk about life events that they have done and haven't done yet.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of vocabulary in the context of describing life events

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in speaking in the context of describing life events

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Showing the Ss a picture of some life events and ask them to describe what they see. Elicit answers and examples to set the context.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Exercise No 1 pg 40. Ss will be divided into groups and will be given flash cards with different life events. They should put each event under the correct category of (love & relationship or home and family or education or career). Then, Ss will check in pairs and will be given the answer key.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Pre-teach the following vocabulary: “to rent” (v) /rent/ “get a degree” collocations /ɡetədɪˈɡriː “get promoted” collocations /ɡetprəˈməʊtəd/ “Split up” : phrasal verb /ˈsplɪt.ʌp/ “bring up": phrasal verb /brɪŋʌp/ “move house”: collocations /muːvhaʊs/ “get divorced”: collocations /ɡetdɪˈvɔːrst/ “leave school”: collocations : /liːvskuːl/ Ask CCQ where appropriate. Elicit meaning, check understanding, drill and write form.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss will answer exercise No 2 pg 40, check in pairs and will be given answer keys. Ss. will answer exercises No 1, 2 , 3 & 4 pg 138. check in pairs and will be given the feedback and answer keys.

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will practise speaking in the context of describing life events. Ss have to prepare answers for exercise No 1b pg 40. Then they will discuss their answers in pairs and in groups. Then, I would give them content feedback.
