In this lesson Ss will learn some new vocabulary. They will practice reading through a context.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of would you like to spend a night in this room?

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I print ghosts paper models, eliciting the word from them. After drilling and writing stage, I ask them to think about any situation happened with them before related to ghosts' stories. They start talking together about it while monitoring.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I use flash cards to show pictures of the new vocabulary that may blocking them in the reading text. I may skip the checking step because all pictures are very clear to understand.

Gist task (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ss read the questions first. Then they look at the pictures and read the introduction of the text. I give them two minutes to answer the questions. They check in pairs. I give feedback.

Specific information task (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

I give the ss a reason to listen that is to label the three pictures with words from the listened track. I play the audio file. They answer while listening. They check in pairs. i give feedback.

Detailed task (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I ask ss to read the text for detailed information through some correction sentences. I give them time to read the text. Then they correct the information. They check in pairs. I give feedback on wall.

Follow up (6-8 minutes) • To balance productive and receptive skills

I give them 1 minute to think about : " Do you think Stephen saw the ghost? " Then I give them 3-5 minutes to speak together about that freely. I give feedback.
