Description

in this lesson students are going to listen to a video at first, it is about culture shock, then we will discuss it, then there is another text about culture shock with three exercises, students will read the text and answer each exercise, one at a time.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have practised gist and intensive reading in the context of culture shock.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of culture shock.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage I will be playing a video, it is about culture shock, it is a clip from the movie " Outsourced-2006", it is about an American call-center manager Todd is shocked to learn that his company is shutting down and moving its operations to India so he traveled to India and got shocked by their traditions and culture.

Pre-Reading, free practice. (2-5 minutes) • To prepare the students for intensive reading and setting the context.

in this procedure, I will be handing the students a piece of paper about the feeling of a "fish out of the sea", the feeling that people feel when traveling abroad. the students will answer and discuss their answers in pair-work.

Pre-teaching vocabulary. (1-3 minutes) • To further develop context and pre-teach vocabulary

the word I am going to clarify is: (Grunt: verb [ I ], UK "/ɡrʌnt/", US "/ɡrʌnt/") The technique I am going to use is to put my self in a situation making while using grunting to express my self.

Reading task1, free practice. (6-10 minutes) • Reading task • To provide students with more challenging intensive reading.

the students will read the context it is about an English woman called Miranda Ingram which married a Russian man called Alexander, Miranda will be shocked by Alexander cultural behavior, then the students will answer one checking question and discuss their answers in pair-work.

Reading task2. (8-12 minutes) • Reading task • To provide students with more challenging intensive reading.

the students will read the same text and answer a marking True or False Question. then discuss their answers in pair-work.

Reading task3 (8-12 minutes) • Reading task • To provide students with more intensive reading

the same text with a completing question. then the students will discuss their answers.

Extra activity. (3-5 minutes) • Practice speaking.

This activity will be added if there is extra time. the students will work in pairs to discuss which country they would like to visit and discuss the problems that they would face in the change of culture and habits.
